In 2006 the NASC will be running a Grand Draw Raffle throughout the year, which will be drawn on Sunday Prize giving at 32nd Street Rod Nationals.

The FANTASTIC PRIZE is a 1941 DODGE PICKUP built by GLEN WHETREN’S ROD BODY’S CUSTOM BUILT STREET RODS & MARK HEMPSON.

THE STORY SO FAR AND HOW IT CAME ABOUT.

The dodge you see in the photographs is a 1941 long bed pickup, which was in production in America from 1939 to 1947.

Due to the beginning of the war, all truck production stopped for civilian models in 1942.
Dodge design engineers planned to use the Fisher cab, but changed the design on the bonnet and fenders, which were lengthened and squared up, as was the rear.

The running gear was changed and fixed to a four wheeled drive unit and chassis and was renamed as the Dodge Power Wagon, which proved the ideal work horse for the United States Army in WW2.

Production carried on for the civilian market in 1946 and stopped in 1947.

This model of the Dodge Pickup was in production for the civilian market for around four years, making it a very rare model, in fact there are just a handful surviving today.

So how did GLEN WHETREN’S ROD BODY’S CUSTOM BUILT STREET RODS, come to get hold of such a rare example of the DODGE 41 PICKUP.

It’s all to the thanks of a guy and keen street rodder – BRYAN ROBINSON, who contacted GLEN WHETREN’S ROD BODY’S to inform him of his rare find in America. After a few emails to America, BRYAN ROBINSON purchased the Dodge 41 Pickup and then shipped it from America – two weeks later, and then another further eight weeks to see it in UK.

As soon as it was released from Customs - Bryan collect the Dodge from Chatham docks and transported it to Hayling Island Portsmouth, Bryan contacted Glen at ROD BODY’S CUSTOM BUILT STREET RODS and invited him to come and visit to see the pickup for himself.

A week later Glen travelled down south from Wisbech to see for himself a rare pickup and couldn’t believe the condition on how straight and rot free not a spider web anywhere.

During this time Glen of ROD BODY’S CUSTOM BUILT STREET RODS was looking for a SVA rod project and this was going to be the ideal project.

Glen explained in detail of his future plans of the project and deal was agreed with Bryan Robinson. With the body now moulded in Fibreglass, Glen needed a chassis for SVA specification requirements for a truck project.

At the time Glen produces all of FENLAND ROD & CUSTOM FIBERGLASS BODIES for MARK HEMPSON the owner, it was only fair to have Mark Hempson to design a chassis for the Dodge Pickup.

Mark Hempson has over ten years experience in building Sierra and Granada chassis for his Model A Kits.
