NASC @ Run To The Sun 2006
This was the second year we had attended the RTTS down in Newquay, and we were not disappointed.

This was the 20th Anniversary of the event, and was bigger than ever, despite it clashing with another local event.

Von and I started the long haul from Northampton on the Friday and took us a brain numbing 12 hours to get there, due to the huge traffic jams, it took us half that time to get back on the Monday, but it was all really well worth the effort.

We arrived at our Hotel just after midnight and you’ve never seen 2 stroppy, tired, grumpy old gits so keen to get to sleep, waking at about 8 to a fantastic sea view from the room.

WE spent Saturday, checking out the local area, you couldn’t fail to be impressed by amount of good quality Surf wagons, Rods and Yanks cruising the streets of Newquay, it was real nice to see that the Hot Rod spirit was alive and kicking at RTTS.

We set up for the Show n Shine early on Sunday morning, and after a week of inclement weather the Sunday was lookin pretty good with some of that Shiny stuff making an appearance. We put the stand up next to the main stage, turned the PA system up and watched the show area fill up. The local guys from Surf Coast Cruisers parked their Rods around in front of the stand, by mid morning the main show area was full, so the 2 overflow areas where brought into play.

The NASC judge the Rod/Yank side of things at the RTTS, which is really interesting as we don’t often see the local machinery. This year was harder than ever to judge as the quality was outstanding, but one car stood out for me, that was Lee Andrews 1954 Fordson, with new style flames and running a 2.1ltr Triumph Dolomite motor which is producing 200bhp with an extra 75hp of gas and not surprisingly running 12 sec quarters.

The show makes a nice change, yeah it’s a long way for some to go, but it’s a great part of the country and the atmosphere is just great. So next year why not give it a go, make a Holiday of it, you won’t be disappointed!
